ACUCA Biennial Conference & 18th General Assembly (November 1-3, 2010)

The ACUCA Biennial Conference and 18th General Assembly took place at Keimyung University, Daegu, Korea, from November 1-3, 2010. The theme for this year’s conference was “Sustainable Development and Christian Initiative.”
With this Conference we would like to have taken the opportunity to address
some of the critical environmental issues, which our region is facing.
We were mindful of the need to strike a balance between a theological
and scientific focus. It was our wish to explore the various ways in
which we can utilize our ACUCA institutions’ core Christian principles,
as well as our extensive and growing ACUCA network. The Conference was an opportunity to share best practices on environmentally-friendly
campus development, to initiate international and inter-institutional
cooperation, and to re-affirm our commitment to the service of the
Christian message in Asia. · To identify the connections
between the Christian ethic and environmental action, in the light of
the dangers and risks faced by the environment in Asia.
We had identified the following as our Conference objectives:
· To
raise awareness of the environmental dangers that unfettered
development poses to Asia, and to identify the role that Christian
institutions of higher education can play in developing a sustainable
society.
· To share ideas on the successful implementation of
policies and curriculum to educate students and to develop an
environmentally-friendly campus.
· To explore the possibility of
developing a framework for collaborative environmental programs,
utilizing ACUCA’s potential for student and faculty exchange.
